and we saw the results in the 2012 election. this did not cause president obama the election, it probably helped him. he had a healthy margin of victory of the popular vote. his margin was larger than his larger -- that his margin of victory. there are lots of groups you could say it about, but is also true of lesbian and gay voters. the issue almost certainly helped president obama and did not hurt president obama. the lesson is not lost on the republican party. here are my concluding thoughts. it is a complicated history to were the long road of marriage equality, the beginning is a complicated answer about backlash and the popular analysis of what is going on politically. what i want to conclude with, this has been neglected by the backlash theorists, how the courts have advanced marriage equality. i think there have been three things about what the courts have done. from my point of view, the most important is a fantastically important setting for capabilities. the word marriage in our vocabulary only meant different sects.

that election didn't work. there was unrest in the streets and the turmoil completely consumed the rest of that year. and so, basically i think this is as good as any time to start negotiations. so what is stopping us from doing this? of course there's a synergy of inaction on both sides and invested political interest to generate a kind of in group solidarity from the image of a demonized other, on the other side. but there is only one way to break this logjam, and that is, i think the two sides should, this block of marble and see the statue inside the block, apply to think to apply pressure, force, but also perspective to breakout a new compromise out of this situation. and there are risks and there are rewards to this. any politician who openly says i'm going to make peace with the other side and resolve this issue would be -- out of hand if they don't succeed. but there are also great rewards because we also know the politician, to cut his 10 year old, will have a place in history. so what is keeping the s

his book is about this election. what is it in your first book about obama than they do cast him as a centrist? >> well, i always thought he was a proud taste and pretty much his overall approach to issues when he was an illinois state senator, when he was in the u.s. senate. when they read, have to ask about his book about his altogether pre-senate career. it's pretty clear he's not an ideologue. so i always thought the idea of him as a socialist or whatever is just a smear. -- element of truth to it? >> the next book is about -- >> margaret was said you were supposed to tell me. >> there was a concerted effort that started even before he became president, but really accelerated in 2009 to destroy him politically for the purposes of regaining power. and so, it was not a conspiracy, but there were a lot of people who had a similar interest in trying to paint him as something he wasn't. i mean, we all know about the hope further movement. one of the amazing parts about that is that how far it moved into the mainstream

the results depend on the way you decide the election. elections were designed around reading for small, small at cs where you needed only eight voices to actually be elected to the electoral, to the general secretariat. if you get seven voices, that was not enough. what happens is that during the day i, for example, kept holding my vote because i was trying to make sure that minorities elected. many people were just excited about the election process. as serious, there were yearning to cast their vote. and they have cast their votes in the morning and then realized, you have quite a big gap in terms of representation of minorities and women. by the afternoon not many voices left, so we were frantically trying to create a balance, and we could not really hit it. i have to admit that i have been a burst several times to move up to the general secretariat and even to the executive office. however, because i do not represent always the mainstream of where the revolution has been having to my cab declining because i wanted syrian people to se
